Murray’s New Orleans’ MEGARITA Drinks

February 11, 2013

It is the Chinese New Year! It is time to celebrate! It is always nice to see updates and feeds from social media exuding good vibes. I suddenly felt the need to grab a cocktail glass and say “Cheers!”

Yes, cocktails. I miss having cocktails. I am a social drink, you see. I drink with the company of friends – to enjoy good conversations and not to get drunk. I remember when all my friends would order beer and hard drinks, I would always order margarita. Classic or frozen, both love the drink. It is always in the bar list wherever I am in the globe.

But admit that the drink doesn’t come with a cheap price – after all, it’s a mix of tequila, Triple Sec and lime (yes, I still remember the recipe! I memorized it for our finals in Bar Management class!). So imagine my delight when I found out that Murray’s New Orlean’s is serving Megarita for only Php299!

I was surprised when I arrived in New Orlean’s.. Massive glasses of fun colored drinks were already in the table. My friends were already enjoying the drink. I cannot tell if they were already tipsy. They were laughing and so much enjoying the night.

The server gave me my own massive glass to empty.. and more were served. I first had the Electric Blue which is refreshing (I am thinking they used Blue Curacao, which is just perfect – not empowering).

Then I moved to the Pink Lady (the playful lights in New Orlean’s turned this drink into Yellow). In between dinner, I tried the other flavors.

Megarita is really refreshing that is delightful for both the tastebuds and eyes. One full glass will last you the whole night.

I personally love this Raspberry drink. I love chewing those berries which were soak in alcohol and ice.

Before you head over to Murray’s New Orlean’s and order your Megarita, let me tell you that the restaurant also offers good food. Think of Cajun, Creole and celebration! A little history – it even started in 1985 inspired by travels to New Orleans, Louisiana and became brainchild of restaurateur Murray Hertz. It was in October 2007 when the restaurant was relaunched, when Celebrity Chef Peter Ayson, teamed up with New Orleans consultant, Murray Hertz, and it is then called Murray’s New Orleans Bourbon Street Steaks and Oysters.

Some must-orders!

Mardi Gras Nachos Php 265.00
Tricolor corn tortilla, grilled chicken barbeque, sour cream, sharp cheddar and mango jalapeño salsa.

Generous serving. We were even served salad – but it was gone in a few seconds 😉 It is that delish!

New Orlean’s Famous Baby Back Ribs Half Slab 498.00
Barbecued U.S. pork baby back ribs, dirty rice, coleslaw, and house BBQ sauce

You can never go wrong with this. Eating this seems like eating from a different geography. It must probably just me or there is something special about the recipe.

Voodobo Rice Php375
Chicken and pork voodoo adobo rice, garlic mussles, quail eggs and pickled okra.

This dish is the bomb! New Orlean’s gave a little twist to the Filipino favorite – adobo! It is a complete meal – with pork, chicken, veggies and seafood! Plus the quail eggs! Love it!

Don’t hate me, I forgot what this dish is called. Probably I had enough Megarita to remember each and every dish I was eating. I don’t normally order fish when dining out, BUT I might order this again. I love that the fish remained crispy even the place is a bit cold. It could make a good pulutan! 😉

Just when we thought the we had the best surprise and night of our lives (thanks to Megarita and New Orleans), the lights suddenly danced and on stage came out Mardigrettes!

The lights killed my camera’s flash and setting..

These ladies danced and entertained the guests with their sultry dance moves. The guests were sure entertained. Lookie:

We thought they were hired as entertainers, at the end, they were introduced; and they were actually staff of New Orlean’s – Mara, Jana, Gella and Jersey. Don’t ask me if those are their real names 😉 But you can catch the Mardigrettes‘ performances at Murray’s New Orlean’s Teaser Tuesdays, Robinson’s Magnolia’s MardiDocs Thursdays and Mall of Asia’s Jive Fridays.

Very interesting, and talented. I wonder how do they find time to practice and choreograph their dances. New Orlean’s sure has a lot of surprises.

And here’s another surprise – the bar was placed on fire. NOT!

Don’t panic, it is all part of the show! The bartender suddenly started with flairtending! Gosh, how I miss throwing bottles! I always tell during meet and greets, if salary is not a concern, I want to be a bartender in a local bar. Maybe Murray’s New Orlean’s got some open positions? BUT, I don’t dance like the Mardigrettes (not sure if that is the qualification).

Anyway’s if you want to relax, have a good night, enjoy good food and drown yourself with fun cocktail – visit Murray’s New Orleans!
