SumoSam, Olympia: The Old Bar is Now a Sushi Bar

April 15, 2013

On the way to the new Sumosam Olympia branch, I kept on asking my blogger friends where exactly was the venue. They kept on referring to the old Robot bar (that bar which was owned by Tim Yap). I know I got the place correctly, but I knew this place as Wasabi bar. Do the math. Yes, I am that old. I had probably outgrown the night life when the old Wasabi bar became the Robot bar – which is now the newest SumoSam branch.

When I entered the 25th SumoSam branch, it was like entering the bar. The store preserved most of the interior – the set up is a departure from the casual dining restaurant that SumoSam has. There are couches with throw pillows, glass walls and a lot of bulbs! Really cute.

It is the biggest dining location about 300 sqm and SumoSam will put this into good use as they invite diners to the Daily Buffet at Php499 per person for lunch and dinner. Expect fresh salad, sushi, ramen, tempura. I always love SumoSam, you can check my food fest post here about what good sushi to order and here about the other food you can order from Sumosam.

SumoSam is also ready for summer, as ice pops with flavors like green tea, choco banana, pistachio, red bean and black sesame will be available.

And since the venue was once a bar, there is even a wine list and cocktail drinks that can be concocted for real relaxation.

When you think of SumoSam, you associate it with Marvin Agustin – and yes, he was there to lead the opening ceremony which is done by slicing a sushi and serving it to all the guests. If slicing a sushi would mean success in the business, we can forget about the ribbons. SumoSam only had 4 stores in 2011, and in two years has expanded in the Metro and marked its milestone – the 25th store in Olympia, Makati.

Sushi Toast!

I am amazed at how friendship and professional relationship worked among the 3 friends – Marvin Agustin, Raymund Magdaluyo and Ricky Laudico. Of course, we know that Marvin is also handling other food establishments aside from SumoSam. I wonder if he is interested in partnering with me? 😉

The SumoSam Olympia store is really different from the usual SumoSam branches – it offers cocktails, buffet, and even delivery. The place can also be a good venue for meetings, or engagement activities. Marvin wants it to be the Sushi Bar place-to-be in Makati.

It was a fun, intimate night with lots of prizes and good food. Congratulations to SumoSam!
