[Review] The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Ultrabook

February 4, 2015

I never realized that I would fall deeply in love with a machine – an ultrabook. I only see laptop as something to use to type documents, send email or just lightly place in your desk to submit your reports and meet deadlines.

The first laptop I owned was an old machine I have inherited from my sister – something that I couldn’t carry around. When I started working, I owned my first Thinkpad. A bit old, bulky piece that (surprisingly) functions even when the casing was already saying goodbye. When it was replaced by Thinkpad X230, everything seems right and perfect to my little tech world. I could use the tiny machine to process documents, run reports and do other things concurrently. Sometimes I think, technology means magic.
Last year, I was introduced to an ultrabook! It was like a superhero of laptops. I got a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 which transforms in to different modes. I was getting more accustomed to using the lovely device when I received a new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro! (check out my unboxing here)

Here I am doing a little testimonial-slash-review of how and why I love my new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. It didn’t occur to me that I would write more about technology and gadgets – but it has become part of my lifestyle. The first time I met this lovely gadget in London, I was silently wishing to own one!

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Design

I was praying to receive Yoga 3 Pro in Clementine Orange and glad that my Santa did hear my prayers. It is a beautiful, sleek ultrabook. I never know I could use the word “sleek” to describe something in orange. But it is really beautiful. Something that is perfect for stylish and women who love fashion.

It is thin and slim, yet durable. I kept on telling my friends how I see most of the ultrabooks as weak. Yes, some of them are pretty, sleek and colorful – but there is that feeling that they look so pretty and fragile. Unlike the Yoga 3 Pro, with its hinge design, you can easily convert it to different modes without worry about lose screws, damaged casing or berserk LCD display.

The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is very light-weight and thin that I can perfectly fit it in my bag when traveling. I wish to bring this beauty on my next trip so I can show you guys how portable it is. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is also built with JBL® speakers and Maxx Technologies by Waves Audio  which produces good, crisp sound. I, however, mostly use it with headphones – because I use my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro tablet for movie marathons 🙂

I love the hand rest on the keyboard sides – and although there are differences in the keyboards layout, I didn’t have difficulty adjusting. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro has 2 USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot, and a headset jack. The adapter though is unique on its own – better that you always keep it with you when traveling.

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro vs Lenovo Yoga 2 11 Comparison

While I rave about my new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, you might see it at something as the old Lenovo Clementine Orange yoga that I had. I thought of doing a side by side comparison so you guys would better appreciate it.
The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro (left) is 13.3 inch ultrabook compared to Lenovo Yoga 2 11 (right) which is cute and petite at 11 inches.
Everyone is talking about Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro’s hinge – and I am talking about it too!
The silver hinge is not just there to give the orange casing a sophisticated tone but also to hold the screen and keyboard tightly – allowing it a smoother transition when it bends and transforms into different modes.
If you have seen my unboxing video, you would see how I instantly transformed the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro with ease and confidence. The Lenovo Yoga 2 11 has only 2 hinge design but is still durable and strong.

The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro hinge band is comparable to a watch band. Its design also gives the yoga a thin and slim look. Check out the photos below (and you can see my mom working in the kitchen).

2.62lbs and 0.50 inches thick

The keyboard layout is different but I like that I can easily clean and dust it off.  🙂

Harmony Setting

I love this Harmony Setting which is like your special agent that suggests popular apps that people use based on different modes – Stand, Laptop, Tablet or Tent.
I specifically love how it adjusts the LCD display when I am reading a document or reading an ebook – it gives a paperlike feel which is easy on my eyes. 🙂

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Performance

When it comes to machine performance, I want to define them simply based on my needs. I don’t want to complicate my reviews with figures and numbers. 🙂 I love that the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro opens up faster than any machine I have known. I can easily switch on apps and run them concurrently – like have multiple windows for internet, photo editor, video editor and music playing. It works smoothly and follows my every command.

The battery can last up to 5 hours in continuous hardcore use. It automatically shut offs the music when the battery is running low, allowing you to process more important tasks in your machine.

I will post more pictures in Instagram how I use my Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro @ruthilicious.
