Past Meets Present: Join the Visual Arts Competition

January 22, 2015

When was the last time you used a directory and yellow pages?

I had to ask myself the same question during the launch of the DPC, PLDT  29th Visual Arts Competition with the theme “Past Meets Presents”.

Interestingly, Directories Philippine Corporation (DPC) and PLDT engage customers and showcase talented young photo enthusiasts’ work annually since 2011. Unlike the previous issues of yellow pages and directories which feature artwork and abstract designs, the DPC directories are now vibrantly distributed with true life stories through photographs captured by talented young students.

During the launch held yesterday at SM North EDSA Annex, we were joined by one of the winners from last year’s competition. Part of me was wishing I were still in school so I can join.

Why You Should Join the PLDT Visual Arts Competition?

Cash prizes, handsome glass trophies, cameras and computer printers are at stake. The winning photograph will be featured on covers of major telephone directories—PLDT White Pages and DPC Yellow Pages—all over the Philippines. It is good to showcase your talent and to see the beauty of something from the past that might be significant today (say, an old bach trumpet mouthpiece?).

The top 50 finalists will automatically win P5,000 in cash, and their works will be put on display at select SM malls in Metro Manila, North and South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Among the top 50 pictures, the public can select their favorite entry for the People’s Choice Award via online voting through the competition website.

How to submit entry?

Each student can submit up to three entries, either in full color or in black and white. To qualify for the major prizes, any entry must have an 8” x 12” portrait or 12” x 8” landscape orientation with a resolution of at least 10 megapixels. All entries must be uploaded to the contest’s website, between January 21 and February 24, 2015 (up to 11:59pm).
