Why Boating Is a Labor of Love

July 10, 2015
There is a sort of fanaticism that accompanies boating. Whether it’s hopping on a sailboat, using a ski boat, using a fishing boat, or owning an expensive yacht, people just love to get out on the water. Boats are used to cross a lake and find the best fishing spot, to pull friends and family members on water skis, or just to enjoy a relaxing time out on the water. But there’s something more that connects boaters to each other. They form a community of people who have the same interests and the same calling. They have a passion for something that is difficult to explain to those who do not love boating.

Of course, this does not mean that boats are maintenance-free. They can be troublesome, and they do take a considerable amount of work to maintain. It is often necessary to buy parts and things like cargo lifts from companies like Lunmar Boat Lifts for example. However, for a person who loves boats, all of the time, energy, and money that they spend on their boat is not an obligation, but instead it is a labor of love.

Many people see boats as a way of expressing their feelings. They have a love affair with boats that non-boaters do not understand. Some jokingly refer to their needs to be out on the water as a “sickness.” Some have gone as far as turning their boats into a temporary home. Most view their boat as a member of their family. While out on the water, boating enthusiasts are often seen talking to their boat and will jokingly say that their boats talk back to them in ways that only they can hear. For many boat enthusiasts, their boat is a refuge and serves as a physical and emotional harbor.

Many people see boats as a way to escape from difficult challenges they are facing in life. It is a place to go to just unwind and get away from the stress of everyday life. When they are out on the water and they feel the sun on their back and the wind in their face, they have a level of peace and tranquility that they cannot find anywhere else.

Part of the joy that people have when boating is that they are able to leave the 9-to-5 world behind. If their boat is properly equipped, they know that for the days or weeks that they are out on the water, they have everything that they need to keep themselves and their crew alive and happy.
