Matrix Cut for Cancer

September 19, 2015
When I arrived at the Matrix Cut for Cancer event, I wished I still had longer hair. It is not because I want to style it, or arrive glamorously in the red carpet; but because I wanted to donate for the benefit of the cancer patients.

Well, there are 1,000 women who felt the same and they committed to donating 8 inch of their hair. It was kind of chaotic in the SM Atrium Center earlier today but it is all for a good cause. The numbers – 1,000 women, 100 hairdressers, 1 great cause.
In celebration of the Child Cancer Awareness Month, the number 1 American Salon Brand in Asia, Matrix, in partnership with David’s Salon – hosted the Matrix 8-inch Cut for Cancer which pooled together a thousand Filipinas who took the challenge of cutting their hair for the benefit of children braving cancer under the Kythe-Ateneo.

The initiative is under Matrix’s worldwide program called Matrix Chairs of Change which allows salon comunities and stylists to make a difference through their craft. I was amazed looking at the hundreds of hairstylists endlessly working. I heard they started in the morning and only take 5-minute breaks and continuously assist the ladies who also dedicated their time and hair for this life-changing activity.
Matrix Cut for Cancer celebrity ambassador Maxene Magalona also joined the event. She donated (not just 8 inches) but 10 inches of her hair last year! This year, she was joined by her sister, Saab Magalona who also donated 10 inches. I promised myself to donate a piece of my crowning glory once I reached the perfect length.

“The Chairs of Change global advocacy by Matrix is all about empowering hairstylists to create a positive change to the world, and uplift the lives of other people – their own communities here in the Philippines – through their craft” .   – Inah Ramos, Senior Product Manager of Matrix, Philippines.

I love the look on each woman’s face as they posed for a pic with their new hairstyle holding the piece of hair for donation. The donated hair will then be transformed to high quality medical wigs for the kids.
If you missed this event you can still take part by visiting David’s Salon (regular hair cut charges apply) or mailing your hair donation to the Matrix Philippines Office (address below) from September 20 to December 31, 2015.
