A few weeks ago, I attended an event that asked me “what makes you beautiful?”
That made me think for a quick mili-second and told them that I think it is really more of being self-aware. I am aware of my strength and weakness, and I use every opportunity to improve myself. My response didn’t seem to answer the question, maybe because it is not everyday that I feel beautiful. I can actually count the few times I felt beautiful. Lately, I am learning more about myself and insecurities. But I what get me through this life is that I am always confident of my own skin. It helps that more and more brands and campaigns are inspiring more women to fearlessly embrace their own beauty.

Truly, I see woman a lot more beautiful after hearing her stories and journey – and I am so happy to have met a lot of them.
During the exclusive event of Max Factor last October 17, 2018 at SM Mega Fashion Hall, the brand welcomes its first Filipina ambassador, Jennylyn Mercado.
I always admire Jennylyn, and I felt a little starstruck to see her (although it was not my first time to see her in person) – she exudes a different charisma. Jennylyn is an actress, singer, TV host, songwriter, tri-athlete, Muay Thai and Jiu-jitsu enthusiast, and entrepreneur. She owns a salon and is planning to sell baked goodies online.
But despite the glitz and glamour, Jennylyn also faces different challenges – one, is raising her son Jazz Mercado, as a single mom; second was losing her mom (which is her biggest support system).
“In those two scenarios, the thing that got me through is faith in God, that everything happens for a reason; in my inner circle, that they will be there for me no matter what; and lastly, in myself, that I am capable enough to do everything and anything to overcome whatever life gives me,” she shares.
Wondering when does Jennylyn feel more beautiful?
“For me, a person is beautiful when he/she treats everyone with respect, kindness, and love. Their essential goodness makes them beautiful and powerful inside and out.”
Jennylyn also shares what’s in her kikay kit – cheek tint, powder, and lipstick or gloss.
“Being empowered means having the freedom to express yourself and be more confident in who you are. Makeup lets you do just that. Even just through applying makeup, I am able to show myself that whatever happens, I will never lose sight of who I am and who I want to be,” she declares.
