When I received an exclusive invite for the American Idol Season 12 viewing, I never thought that the organizers and Starworld Philippines would literally mean the event as BIG! It is indeed BIG!
American Idol Season 12 aired last Thursday, January 17th through Starworld Philippines. I am lucky to be part of the private viewing held in Urban Bar and Kitchen at The Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City – with selected bloggers, friends from media, twitter personalities and celebrities like Jenni Eperson, Divine Lee, Calum David, Joey Mead, Sam O, Fabio Ide, and Tim Yap (who was also celebrating his birthday).
Days before the event, we were asked to choose between two teams – Team Mariah or Team Minaj – just to add a little excitement with the rumored rivalry and misunderstanding of the two judges. I initially chose Team Minaj, because I wanted to feel hip – BUT my memory can relate more to Team Mariah – so I am with Team Mariah that evening. I know more Mariah songs anyway, just incase there would be a singing contest! Haha.
The event started with welcome remarks of Mr. Jude Turcuato, VP Territory head of Fox International Channels. And as promised to the dear viewers, the airing was shown at exactly 6PM – and that signals the 6PM Habit.
What do we do during commercial breaks? There was no dull moment. Food, alcohol and music were served. Plus, every commercial breaks, they raffled off cool prizes – Cafe Bene’ GCs, Blu-Ray Discs, LED TV monitors, and Technomarine watches!
Yes, it is that BIG an event. Law of Attraction did work once again. I also won an LED TV! Yey! It was timely because our tv set had bid goodbye few weeks ago..
Back to the idols, I love that this season gave a new set of judges who are talented at their own music and crafts. The twists in the audition process is also great to ensure that the most talented and most ideal idols would get a chance to – go to Hollywood! American Idol Season 12 introduced the Small Town Audition Bus Tour and Nominate an Idol Program.
I find Mariah such a darling, always careful about what to say to contestants, Minaj’s tact and candour are just so entertaining and funny – while Keith Urban’s presence balances the rival between the two divas. Randy Jackson will always be himself, and his seat in the judges panel is a reminder that it is still the same American Idol that I know.
Have you already found your favorites? I like Turbanator (so funny! and hilarious!) and the country girl. It breaks my heart to see contestants who would walk away with nothing on their hands – while there are some aspirants who just have too much confidence. I find this set of judges to be really strict. I am surprised they let go of some talents when at the back of my mind, I was saying YES.
The party continued until the Final Screening, but of course I had to leave early because of work.
This season is sure going to be exciting! Catch American Idol Season 12 on StarWorld every Thursday and Friday, 6PM (with replays at 8PM and 11PM). Please do tag #AIonSW 😉
