Afternoon Tea at New World Hotel

March 2, 2013

What do you usually do in the afternoon? My afternoons are usually spent on bed. Thank you to the work schedule I have been following for 5 years.  I miss those days when my afternoons were spent at the mall, or in a movie theater (just because Mr/Ms. Professor didn’t show up in the class). People nowadays still spent most of their afternoons in the mall, mostly coffee shop – to conduct meetings, meet up with friends, just have coffee, kill time, people-watch, and post something on Instagram. Oh, I miss lazy-ing around.

Last week, New World Hotel, Makati gave me a reason to wake up earlier and spent my afternoon at The Lounge. I cannot remember the last time I was in New World Hotel. I remember when I was in College, we had our International Cuisine Buffet in this hotel as part of our exposure tour then. I was the one who organized the event, and coordinated with the Restaurant Manager. That restaurant is no longer there, and the hotel has obviously transformed – I love its new boutique style ambiance.

While I sit in a comfy couch, and exchanging gracious greetings with Ms. Nini Icban, Director of Communications for New World Hotel , the staff started serving these..

and more of these.. until our table looked like this..
There is no reason to complain. Sandwiches. Luscious cake. Finest Scones, and a different Empanada. Have I mentioned a glass of champagne? and a choice of tea or coffee?
You too can experience the same lovely afternoon when you visit The Lounge in New World Manila, click Read More to see the other yummy options..

Well.. Let’s just say, New World Hotel is making afternoons more glamorous for everyone by introducing Afternoon Tea set.
The set/pictures that I posted above is the Chocolate Afternoon Tea, wait until you see the Strawberry Afternoon Tea and Coffee Afternoon Tea sets! (seems like New World Hotel have picked all three flavors that I looove!).
This offering is just perfect for those who would want to impress a client, and close a deal during a business meeting; or even to impress your date after a good movie/lunch. Instead of conducting the meeting in a busy coffee shop when most of the time you find it hard to find an available table and seat, you can go to the Lounge which is a perfect place to do business meetings, bond with friends, and even propose. 😉
I love the idea of Afternoon Tea sets especially for meetings – as Lunch and Dinner are a little more elaborate; the afternoon tea/snack can be intimate and more relaxed.

You might think that the price is too good too be true, and too affordable for a great and glamorous afternoon tea. Of course, we even get to indulge with the company of the great team behind this indulgent tea sets – Chef Ivan Chieregatti (Executive Chef), Sir Paawan Engineer (Director of Food and Beverage) and Chef John Magtibay (Pastry Chef).

Chef John gamely posed for us for this photo-op!

It was nice of them to leave the kitchen and their desks, to chat with us and share with us more about the tea sets.
Then, it was time to lay the verdict.. I first tried the sandwiches, as I was afraid that if I get to try the sweets first, there might be no stopping.  I miss having Pastrami Sandwich, so it was the first that I tried. I can tell it is good even if I only had a bite-size. The Salmon Sandwich is fresh, the Tuna Sandwich is simple and unpretentious, and the Cheese Sandwich is a good “breaker” if you had enough sweets!
Now, it is time to taste the sweets!
Chef John shared that the chocolates are made from the finest chocolate in the world, and I cannot deny that they are rich, flavorful (even just the smell of it!), and just soo good.

The Chocolate Trilogy Millefeuille is to die-for!

It would be my first time to try flavored Scones, and what is interesting – New World Hotel didn’t just serve us with the usual butter and jam for the scones, but cream and other jams. You can experiment and be a little more creative.

One interesting offering from the set is the Empanadas. We are all used to having tangy, all-meat Empanadas.. but New World Hotel gave Empanadas a full twist – how about Chocolate, Coffee or Strawberry Empanadas?

I tried the Chocolate Empanada.. and here’s what’s inside.

Inside the folded dough and flakes is a chunk of Chocolate Goodness!
I want to take home a dozen of it!

Our little Afternoon Tea Party continued until past 6:00 PM.. and in between chats, we grab a bite of these sweets. Who can resist it? The bite-size serving is just perfect and the variety of offerings included in the set would make you feel like you paid for a dessert buffet.

Just when we thought the afternoon is over, we were served with scoops of Ice Cream!
Ice Cream is made special with syrups!
The team also gave us tips what syrup goes well with ice cream..

If you also want to indulge and taste these yummy offerrings from New World Hotel, just visit The Lounge, everyday from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
