Death Care Services & Why We Need to Talk About It
When I was younger, I hate discussing topics about death or going to funerals. I only enjoy hearing ghost stories and watching Halloween Specials. But as I age, I have come to accept that this topic is something we cannot escape – a reality that we would all face.
This year, my sister and I bought burial plan packages from St. Peter. We thought that it is better to plan and be prepared for things like this, rather than shoulder bigger expenses “when in need”. I heard that burial sites and services are twice as expensive when you buy it as walk-in.
As Halloween is approaching, St. Peter launches Death Care Week which is a major Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Service Program of St. Peter Chapels that aims to promote awareness on Death Care planning and preparation.
The St. Peter Death Care Week starts on October 27 and culminates on November 2 – Araw ng Patay each year. We picked these dates because All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day fall within this period and because it coincides with the anniversary date of the company. It is during these dates that Filipinos visit, honor and remember their departed loved ones.
St Peter partnered with Breakout Philippines to make the topic of death and death care lighter and more engaging (or so I thought). Nonetheless, it was a great opportunity to bond with family and friends.
St Peter invited us to try one of the escape rooms at Breakout Philippines in Paragon, Mandaluyong. It was a different thrilling experience to be inside a locked room – trying to solve the puzzle and escape – and thinking if some of the effects were real or not. The backstory of the room gave me chills. We were close to solving the puzzle but it seemed that a 45-minute game is not enough for us (we spent 20 minutes of it bantering at each other).
