Budget Dates at Tomas Morato: Pamana and Big D’s

January 13, 2015

It is hard to stay focused on eating healthier and staying fit if you have friends who love good food and enjoy random food trip as much as you do.

I thought of going straight home after the #AldenBirthdayBuild (because I felt disabled, I forgot my wallet at home!) but it was #MotherEarth’s birthday and we thought of celebrating it with her.

We thought of just having dessert and fine tea, but we had so much more.

First Stop: Pamana
It is a newly opened restaurant in Mother Ignacia (near ABS-CBN). I think its original store is in Tagaytay, and is owned by the Ongpauco’s (yep, Heart Evangelista). What greeted us in the restaurant are, gazillion picture frames! I was telling my friends I have brought my own picture frame to hang on the wall.
The restaurant is not yet fully operational (they only accept cash) but checking Pamana’s offerings, the store has really reasonable priced dishes ranging from Php 200 to Php 400.

We had Chocolate Fondue with Local Kakanins Php 200 – an interesting dessert/snack that gives kakanin a more appetizing appeal. I am not a fan of local kakanins – I eat them but I never craved for them. Interestingly, I enjoyed them with the chocolate fondue. The kutsinta and putobumbong are best fit. The white puto is kind of dry though.

The Crunchy Monkey Php 160 is a typical chocolate ice cream with thin slices of bananas and peanut butter drizzle. I am not an ice cream person but I think Crunchy Monkey is a lot fun to eat than Banana Split. 🙂
The #Kumagcow suggested to visit Banaue for some good porkchops, but the #NognogintheCity had 4pm commitment, so we stayed in Tomas Morato area and transferred to Big D’s.

I love the brick building, lamps and windows that remind me of old London. Big D’s seems like a perfect place for dates and intimate dinners (or maybe this place gets noisy and crazy at night – I don’t know), but I love that we had the place all by ourselves that afternoon.

Blues music, rock and roll antics on display and fine wooden furniture complete the ambiance. Oh, don’t forget the cowboy hats!

Cow girls, cow boy and Kumagcow!

Now what’s for eats?

#Kumagcow suggested that we try the Tacos – they have the biggest tacos in town! I had the Beef Tacos which is good and really filling. I was only able to finish half of it. Unlike the normal tacos though, it is made of lumpia wrapper, it has ground beef, lots of shredded cabbage, a few slices of tomatoes and cheese sauce. It would have been more awesome to get a good serving of salsa. But for the price of Php 180, I am not complaining.
#Earthlingorgeous had salad and #NognogintheCity had Buffalo Wings – a bit dry for my liking but maybe it would be good to have it with cold beer.
Total Damage is less than Php1,000 for 2 tacos, salad and buffalo wings. I didn’t take note of the pricing and all the other details because I was a #bloggeroffduty but just to give you an idea, Php1,000 can give you a good date experience with lots of privacy. Service is fast and our server is very courteous. Thank you. 🙂
I was dead tired when I got home. I skipped dinner, and now having leftover pizza from Shakey’s for breakfast. Happy birthday again Mother Earth! Awesome day! 🙂
