First Look and Feel of Junction Hostel: Budget Accommodation in Makati

February 17, 2015

One of the things I love about traveling is the comforting feeling of crawling back to your room (after a day of exploration) and waking up in a comfortable bed to say hello to another day of wandering. I know, I am a pampered traveler. I love nice hotels.

Lately, my friends and I are considering of staying in hostels so we can save more in traveling. We thought it is more practical because we only needed a place to park our bags and sleep. I am a bit worried. I have never stayed in a hostel.
Some of my certified backpacking and traveling friends would tell me how fun it is to stay in a hostel or budget accommodation hotel where you meet backpackers from different parts of the globe. Last Friday, I got acquainted with the hostel vibe at the newly opened Junction Hostel in Makati.

Junction Hostel is a new boutique hostel in the heart of Makati along General Luna. It is behind Mathews Building and you cannot miss its facade that is reminiscent of buildings in the old streets in Oxford. There was a fun vibe going on there.. we had to join in.

Junction Hostel’s location is in the corner of a quiet street where restaurants and convenience stores are walking distance. I found that the location is perfect for backpackers and travelers looking for a decent place in Makati with nice bed, secured place and clean toilets (ah, always my biggest concern!).  At first look, I was in awe. If all hostels would look like this, I wouldn’t mind staying in one. Every corner (and wall!) is instagrammable! The designer, Edwin Uy makes sure that there is something interesting whichever way you look in the hostel. Like what they always say, it is all about the details.

Junction Hostel Lobby + Common Area

This is like a playground and haven of music lovers, artists, and people who just want to chill. There are so much play of color, texture and design – a good mix of industrial pieces and recycled items showcased and made warmer with 123 lights.

The Truck is the in-house gourmet station where you can order food and drinks. It is the focal of the common room as it is made of old trailer container. The spaces are filled with recycled stuff like these cabinet organizers.

The hammock could be everyone’s favorite place. I immediately drowned on it to give myself some good rest after a stressful night-before V-day traffic. 🙂

The Fun Hallway

Unlike the usual hotel hallways of carpeted floors and lit with chandeliers, the Junction Hostel’s hallways are colorful and fun – with reminders posted and painted on walls that every traveler cannot miss. There are common washroom and sinks (with hair dryers) that guests can use.

Junction Hostel Rooms

There are different beds and rooms for different types of travelers in Junction Hostel. I love that there is a female-only dormitories where girls who are not comfortable sharing room with guys can stay. The 3-bedroom room has 3 single beds.
There are also 10-bed room (with 5 bunk beds) and there are 6-bed and 4-bed too. Some rooms would have a private room inside complete with its own key card for security. Each room has table and stool and full length mirror. Each bed has locker, rack and 2 sockets.

Room rate starts at Php 650 (less than USD 15 per night).

Private Bed Room for Couples 🙂
The first time I slept on a bunk bed was one night in an island in Indonesia. I didn’t sleep well 🙂

How Would You Like if Someone Turned You On, and Left You There? Good reminder to conserve electricity 🙂

We were supposed to stay that night, however, I have commitments the following day and we only had the night to check out the place. Hopefully, I can share my review about this new hostel and budget accommodation in Makati.
