I live in Manila and it is like 10 kilometers (or more) away from where good things are happening. I live far from Ortigas, Makati and Taguig. Oftentimes, when I go out to meet friends or attend parties/events, I always worry about going home (especially when it is a Friday, payday and raining). I feel envious of my friends who live near EDSA (one of Metro Manila’s main roads).
I always think of just staying in a business hotel or inn if I get stranded somewhere (or when there is a zombie attack?). I recently discovered a business hotel inn near SM Megamall that provides decent hotel amenities in an affordable price – Jinjiang Inn Ortigas.
Jin Jiang is China’s biggest hotel chain. It has expanded in Asia and you would now see Jin Jiang Hotels in Ortigas and Makati.
I had a little adventure last week far from my usual habitat. Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas
hosted me to a fun, eventful day. Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas is strategically located in the heart of Ortigas in San Miguel cor Lourdes street.
It is walking distance from SM Megamall
and restaurants near the University of Asia and the Pacific. Interestingly, there is a 7-Eleven just right behind it and lots of Pokestops!
Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas Room
The standard room is spacious and comparable to standard room of Deluxe Hotels. It is simple and has all the basic necessities of a business traveler and a bit luxurious for backpackers.
I wish I could live with just a backpack
There’s a comfortable bed, TV set with cable, air conditioning unit and mini bar. There is even a safety deposit box.
(1) Oishi Owow! Love the complimentary bottled water! Water is life! (2) Minibar prices are reasonably priced. You can choose to stay in your room than go out to buy a drink.
The mini bar is fully stocked and prices are comparable in the market. They are not overpriced.
The washroom has a hot and cold shower, a basin and the toilet has sprinkler/bidet. #ruthapproved !
Toiletries are complete with fresh towels and bathrobe. I didn’t expect the room to have these amenities but they are all wonderful surprises. My first few minutes of my stay felt like staying in a luxury hotel except that I didn’t have a wall-to-wall carpet.
I love that there is a strong wifi connection and outlets near my bed (both sides – in case you share room with another workaholic).
Five Spice Asian Bistro Restaurant
We had late lunch in Five Spice Restaurant in the ground floor of Jin Jiang Inn, Ortigas where breakfast buffet is also served to the hotel guests.
Some of my favorites from our Lunch. I love their version of Nachos – chips with ground beef and lots of wansuy!
Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas Breakfast
Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas serves breakfast from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. and is inclusive in the hotel rate
. I love that the breakfast spread is decent and balanced – there are cereals, congee, BACON (!!!), rice, sausage, meat loaf, omelette station, juice station, salad station and desserts.
It is a good deal for the price that you pay. It is not too much or too overwhelming. Just the right food that you need to start your day.
What to do in Ortigas?
I had free time that day and I wanted to check out the fun things to do in Ortigas. We headed to Trampoline Park. Is is just less than 10-minute drive from the hotel (without traffic). It was fun! A different experience! I was scared to try it at first but after sometime I let it go and just started jumping. I wish I were as brave as the parkour boys who move like ninjas.
After an hour of jumping and playing, we went back to the hotel to freshen up. I love that I could just hop from one place/activity to another like a ninja – and still have time to take a shower before dinner time. We could have walked from Greenfield to the hotel but we got a little too pampered. The Jin Jiang Inn bus picked us up from Trampoline Park back to the hotel.
I suddenly felt envious of my friends who lived in Emerald Avenue and Kapitolyo. They usually need an hour to prepare whenever we meet up. While it usually take me more than 2 hours to battle trafficc. Anyway, we had dinner at the Planet Grapes in Shangri-la Mall. We were joined by the very fun Jin Jiang Inn and Hotel 101 Team.
(1) Planet Grapes is always a good idea (2) Choosing my poison (3) Starters – we were very hungry from the trampoline workout (4) That sparkling water which costed Php 800 when it was first launched in Manila 😀 (4) Human Flatlay (5) Love the cheese platter and some cheese trivia from Ms. Lei (5) with the Hotel 101 team
We had a few glasses of wine but I didn’t worry about going home (or being stranded, or sleeping in the streets). We could have literally walked from Planet Grapes to Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas but we still got picked up by the tour bus. Thank you for pampering us!
I was surprised to see a turndown service in my room (complete with chocolate pralines). They say that they only do so for VIP guests. Thank you.
I had a good sleep that night and it was once again time to battle the traffic around the metro. I always wish we have a home near EDSA but it is comforting to know that when in times of mad traffic, bad weather and unreasonable Uber surge pricing (and maybe zombie attacks), there is a budget hotel in Ortigas where I can stay over for a night
Thank you Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas for having me!
Check out Jin Jiang Inn now. I saw some good rates and discounts
which start at Php 2,500 (inclusive of breakfast).
