My Hair, My Say Dove Campaign
Our hair is our crowning glory, and it allows us to be the queen of our own stories.
It was an inspiring day as we celebrated International Women’s Day with Dove as it launches its campaign #MyHairMySay that features bold and empowered women who wear their hair differently and how they encourage other women to be fearless just as they have been.
We all grew up in the stereotypes attached to our hair – that straight, long, black hair defines a feminine and beautiful woman.
Dove unveiled a photo exhibit that features women who share their moments of feeling judged and misunderstood because of their hair choices. I love hearing success stories of women who dared to be different.
The women featured in the exhibit included Michelle Castillo, who works in a corporate environment and flaunts her vibrant blue hair that speaks of her creativity. You will also see portraits of Darla Mamuyac who loves to show her adventuruous side by trying out different styles and cuts – even going bald! Then of course, content creator Teena Arches who keeps her hair colorful despite getting unkind comments on social media.
I wish I could be as adventurous as these ladies when it comes to changing my hair style. I only tried perming my hair once for a messy sexy look and had a blonde highlight. But I always go for straight hair for easy maintenance and coverage of my gray hair.
Now Dove encourages women to be pursue the hair they want without fear, and at the same time without damage.
