Tokyo Skytree at Night View

When we arrived in Japan from Sapporo, we thought making the most of our day/night by visiting the iconic Tokyo Skytree.

Tokyo Skytree is an iconic neo-futuristic broadcasting and observation tower at 634 meters high. As Japan’s tallest structure, it promises breathtaking views of the vibrant city.

We booked our tickets through Klook, which made the process seamless and hassle-free. With just a quick scan of the QR code at the reception, we received our tickets and were ready to enter Tokyo Skytree.

Tokyo Skytree at Night View

Here are some of the fun and cool things I have learned during my visit to the Tokyo Skytree:

The Tower Changes Colors Based on Japanese Culture

Tokyo Skytree isn’t just illuminated—it tells a story through its lights! The tower has three main lighting themes:

Iki (粋, Chic): A sky-blue tone symbolizing the spirit of Edo (old Tokyo).
Miyabi (雅, Elegance): A regal purple, representing traditional Japanese aesthetics.
Nobori (幟, Rising): A warm orange, symbolizing prosperity and hope.
During special occasions, like holidays or anime collaborations, the lighting changes to reflect the theme. Sometimes, the tower even glows in rainbow colors!

It’s Earthquake-Proof (Inspired by Ancient Japanese Temples!)

Given Japan’s frequent seismic activity, Tokyo Skytree was engineered for earthquake resistance. Inspired by ancient Japanese pagodas—structures that have withstood quakes for centuries—the tower features a central column that moves independently from the outer frame, effectively absorbing shocks from earthquakes and strong winds.

It Has One of the World’s Highest Glass Floors

If you love thrills, head to the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. Its glass floor lets you peer straight down at the city below.

It Has a Secret “Demon Face” If You Look Closely

There’s an urban legend that if you view the Tokyo Skytree from a specific angle, the steel framework forms a shape that looks like a Japanese demon’s face. Some say it’s a good luck charm, protecting the tower from evil spirits.

Tokyo Skytree Looks Different Depending on Where You Stand

Due to its unique shape, the Tokyo Skytree changes appearance depending on where you view it from. From some angles, it looks thin and sleek, while from others, it appears wider and more powerful. This optical illusion makes it a fun tower to photograph from different locations.
