I welcomed the new year differently this year. I had a date. It was my mom 🙂
We watched the Patti Austin – One Heart One Voice benefit show held in Fairmont Hotel, for the benefit of Habitat for Humanity. We actually had an intimate bloggers con with Patti the day before the show – you can read about it here.
I missed her show the last time she was here in Manila in September because we headed to Bacolod for the organic farm tour. So this time around, I made sure to catch her and experience the Patti Austin concert.
Can I just say that she is not just a great singer but a good entertainer too? Her music and songs are just classics that everyone in the audience sang with her the entire show. She knows how to engage her audience by officially letting us sing with her.

Most of her songs are about love – and there is something about the songs that connects and draws people to her pieces – probably because she sings with her heart.
It was an amazing night. And yet, we (blogger friends) felt like Cinderella after the show. We were all aiming to get home before 12 midnight (not that our grand ride will turn into a pumpkin) but Manila can go crazy during new year’s eve. We got to our street 10 minutes before 12, and people were already having a mad street party with loud firecrackers. Our neighbor was kind enough to adopt us, as we couldn’t walk pass the crazy street party people.
After the loud bangs and beautiful fireworks display, we got home safely – and the Patti Austin songs were still playing in my head, replacing the Auld Lang Syne.Â
