The Day I Met Julia Fordham: Love Moves Valentine’s Concert on Feb 14

February 12, 2014

The younger generation might think that it was Nina who sang the song – Love Moves in Mysterious Ways.  It is such a beautiful song – and the original voice of the song is here in Manila for a Valentine’s Concert of the same title. Julia Fordham!

She popularized the songs – Where Does the Time Go, I Can’t Help Myself, River, Love and Forgiveness, Love Moves in Mysterious Ways, Someone to Watch Over You, Happy Ever After, Invisible War, Loving You and Girlfriend  – and I am sure these are on your love song playlist!

I was at the press conference yesterday which was held in Solaire Resorts and Casino. When Julia came in the venue, she was all smiles to meet the press. Candidly, she even sang with the background music playing her song – as if she was ready to give us a sample of what we can expect on Friday. She said that Filipinos are very romantic and it is just right to celebrate good music and love month in Manila.

I was listed to ask the first question, which unfortunately has been asked by the host – so I have to be quick in thinking what to ask her – how about plans of recording an album with Filipino artists?

She delightfully answered yes. She shared that she previously recorded an album to aid the Indian Ocean Tsunami relief, and she can do the same with Filipino artists. How fun it would be if she and Nina – which she adores as gorgeous, would record a single? She also loves Nina’s version of Love Moves in Mysterious Ways.

Many are curious on how she finds inspiration to her music and songs, but she shared that when she record, she doesn’t know which song will be a big hit – which I believe is very true. Like, when you are falling with someone, you love listening to love songs; but when you two broke up, you would start hating the songs that you used to enjoy listening to. She said that music finds her – so she basically has no answer on what makes a good love song.

I find them singing together at the end of the press con.
It just shows how light and fun their working relationship is.
Something that viewers should look forward to this Friday.

By the way she treats the press people, and she smiles radiantly during the press con, it reflects the kind of life she has – and it reflects her beauty. I don’t want to believe that she is already 51 years old!

She has worked with the late Nelson Mandela which she regard as “shining beacon of light and an inspiration to us all”. For her Valentine’s Day concert, proceeds of the show will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity and Natasha Goulbourn Foundation’s trauma and healing sessions for the typhoon Yolanda victims.

I am so glad to have met the ladies of this foundation – Ms. Jeannie and Ms. Frances who are really nice people. They have amazing projects that they want to implement to help Filipinos and elevate our lives. Collaboration of talent, music, arts and fashion. Very exciting!

I have learned that Natasha Goulbourn Foundation is the only organization that provides assistance to those who need support to bringing depression to light through the use of education, lectures, confidential crisis lines and referral to partner psychologists.

Side note story, if you know someone who is depressed, or if you need someone to talk to regarding your problem – call 804 – HOPE (4673). You can also visit www.ngf-hope.org. I am so glad that we have something like this in the Philippines. I just wish the government will provide support to this organization.

Ms. Jeannie Goulbourn talks about the advocacy

It is a given that most of the organizations have helped in providing relief and housing for the victims of the typhoon, but the deeper issue here is dealing with depression and trauma, and that is something that this organization advocates.

If you want to experience romantic love songs by Julia Fordham and help the victims of the typhoon, catch Julia Fordam on February 14, 8 p.m. at the Grand Ballroon of Solaire Resort and Casino. The following day February 15, Julia will perform at the Lobby Lounge of EDSA Shangri-La with the country’s queen of Jazz, Annie Brazil, titled “Up Close and Personal.”

The press conference itself is very light and full of hope, I cannot wait to see the concert.

Here I am with Julia – she is really nice and accommodating.
She asked to have our picture taken again as she thought
she blinked the first time. 😉
