Victorinox’s INOX Watch: The Most Durable Swiss Watch

September 16, 2014

Even before the man landed in the moon, and Coke started sharing the good drink, Victorinox was already making history. A company which is considered a national treasure in Switzerland because of its most legendary product – the Swiss Army Knife – is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year.

What is a good way to celebrate this milestone but to create something that defines the brand  – I.N.O.X – a new watch that showcases the values that have made Victorinox famous – authenticity, strength, quality, expertise and Swiss Design.

The official launch was held in White Space in Tomas Morato. I was charmed by how the team transformed the function hall into a sophisticated room with black curtains and elegant set-up.

The name I.N.O.X comes from the French word – stainless steel, the solid, durable and corrosion-resistant material that Victorinox adopted more than 50 years before it became the norm in the Swiss watch industry.

We have witnessed how insanely extreme they tested the Victorinox INOX watch. The videos rolled as we enjoyed the lunch served by Cibo de M Signature Caterer.

I love watches and I still collect them even if it means some of them play dead (drained batteries) in the case (we are still trying to revive the old automatic watch we found in the old jewelry box). I mostly have dress watches, and I am shifting to more masculine and solid pieces – the ones that you can bring anywhere (ah, very much like the ideal man!) – without the worry of having it scathed. The INOX is love. I now believe in love at first sight.

The INOX watch is not all about the beautiful surface – it is tough and solid – designed to withstand unusual stress (the kind of man I like! Haha). It has actually passed 130 strength tests – not randomly chosen. Beyond the standard certification tests of Swiss watch industry, a series of new tests were developed specifically for INOX. It truly reflects the Victorinox Swiss Army’s passion for pushing boundaries and imposing new rules on resistance.

I mentioned about insanely extreme tests, here are some of the tests conducted and it is official that INOX is tested to be capable of resisting:

  • 8 tons compression under a hydraulic press (can be driven over by a truck of 25 tons).
  • temperature shocks from – 57 degrees to +71 degrees Celcius (comparable to the starndard set by the US Army for manufacture of missiles.
  • salt spray corrosion or chemical attacks
  • a fall of 10 meters onto a surface of concrete surface.
  • exposure to a flame at a distance of 5mm for more than 1 minute
  • glacial cold.
  • extreme conditions at stratospheric altitude of 21,300 meters – twice the height of airplane flight.
  • full spin in washing machine for two hours.

Mr. Alex Bennouna, Victorinox Swiss Army Watches, CEO
shared the solid history of Victorinox

I heard that they tested 421 INOX prototypes over a period of 6 months to achieve ultimate strength. Equally insane and fun is Rovilson Fernandez who hosted the event. He welcomed the Philippine Ambassadors of Victorinox INOX watches who embodies the INOX brand qualities – fearless and active.

Oh, please.. say hello to Andrew Wolff, international rugby player.

Andrew shared how important for him to wear a watch that is durable especially that he plays rugby which is a  rugged and physical sport. He sure likes his INOX watch!

John Spainhour (scout sniper for the US Marine Corps) is also a proud Victorinox INOX watch brand ambassador.

Of course, sports enthusiast and adventure-seeker, Marc Nelson
also has good things to say about the INOX watch. He shared that he was excited to bring it home and test its resistance by smacking it in the floor and breaking it like a mad man. He was kidding, of course.
Always fun to see these two together!

Setting aside the good-looking Victorinox INOX watch brand ambassadors (aha!), one would instantly fall for the simple, yet durable and strong features of the new INOX watch. Its price is insanely affordable  that is Swiss made.
