130 Million Steps to Fight Breast Cancer
I find it funny when friends would sometimes tease me and tell me that I wear a bra padding. 😀 I got my boobs genes from my mom – and she is proud of it. 🙂 Sadly, she was recently diagnosed with a Breast Cancer.
No one is exempted from breast cancer – or cancer. I never said much about this episode in my life because I still want to keep things private especially if it is about my family.
Now it is time to speak up and stand up to fight cancer. This 2016, Avon, the global company for women, celebrates 130 years with a heightened commitment to fight breast cancer. Men and women of all ages stepped out to join Avon Philippines on their mission to raise 130 Million Steps at the Grand Download Day last October 9 at the Liwasang Ullalim in CCP Complex.
The event celebrates the launch of the Avon 130 Million Steps app which enables participants to track their steps, and be part of the worthy cause. Avon Philippines General Manager Emie Aguilar-Nierves and celebrity ambassador Jennylyn Mercado led ceremonial app downloading together with the participants.
“This year, Avon is celebrating 130 Years of Beauty for a Purpose, and we are proud to be a company that fights wrinkles with one hand and fights breast cancer with the other. Here in the Philippines, we are so excited for people to use our mobile app which makes the crusade bigger and more personal than ever before. The more people participate, the more noise we can make, the more people can become aware, ask questions, and be compelled to have themselves checked.”
Joining the event were celebrities and Avon brand ambassadors Jennylyn Mercado and Rocco Nacino. I remember attending Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer event and Rocco shared how he and her mom fought against breast cancer.
“My mother is my greatest inspiration, and to share this fight with her as well as everyone else would be such an honor and joy,”
Celebrity coaches Jim and Toni Saret joined the event as well, and were sent-off for the nationwide Walk of Awareness. As they trek through the Philippines, they will be using the Avon Pedometer App and documenting their journey.
Coach Jim and Toni will be in Davao, People’s Park, on October 22 at 6:00AM; and in Cebu, Independencia Plaza on October 23 at 4:30PM together with Rocco Nacino.
Make your steps count by downloading the app, walking for a purpose, and sharing your steps on Facebook using the hashtag #130MillionSteps. Visit www.avon.ph to learn about the Avon fundraising products available for purchase and how to make a direct donation to the Philippine Cancer Society.
The funds raised will go to the maintenance of the PGH breast care center which serves thousands of indigent Filipino women; assist breast consultation activities of Avon Representafives; and sustain the monthly activities of the Avon-PGH Breast Care Center Support Group.
