Lenovo Miix 2-in-1 Tablet and Laptop

A laptop?! Nope, a tablet (!!!). I was screaming inside when I unboxed the package sent to me by Lenovo. It arrived sometime in December and I unboxed it a couple of weeks after. I was expecting to receive a Yoga Mouse but I got a white box that is obviously too large to have just a computer accessory inside. The label says – Miix 510!

I didn’t know I needed a 2-in-1 Laptop/Tablet in my life until it became a part of me. More often, we see comments of people like “I need this in my life!” when they see a new released gadget. It wasn’t the case for me. I was too content and happy with my Yoga 900 that can do the job (and more) for me. The only thing that I ever need in my life now is the new Moto Phone. 😀

Unboxing and Design: Miix 510

Let’s do the usual unboxing. I got a Miix 510 that comes with a tablet, a keyboard, charger and some paperwork.  Some models come with a stylus.

The Miix 510 is a sleek, ultra-weight tablet with nice matte finish. I see the familiar hinge in the tablet that allows one to use it like a laptop. But I think it works perfect for artists when sketching/drawing giving their hand a good rest.

The keyboard is like a typical laptop keyboard with easy layout – allowing users to experience typing as if you are using a traditional laptop.  I love that I do not need to do much adjustment when I am using it vs using Yoga 900. The bonus? It works as a screen protector and cover for the tablet when it is not in use.

How I Use My Miix 510?

Blogging – in any given space and time

Blogging is the main activity I use a laptop for. Technically, it may sound too easy and won’t require a high performing laptop BUT in cases when you are traveling and you have limited time/space, that’s when a flexible laptop – or in this case, a hybrid 2-in-1 tablet comes useful.

I was on an assignment for the recent #MissUniverse event and I had to publish an article for another client. I had a full day which started at 3:00 am and chasing Beauty Pageant candidates prevented me from even opening my inbox. It would even impossible to blog/draft using a phone. While waiting for my flight back home, I had the chance to draft an article swiftly with a new Miix 510 that I brought with me.

I only needed a space and a little time to compose my story. I love that it is lightweight and thin which is easier to pack. It starts up pretty quickly that allowed me to put my thoughts into words.

After submitting my blog post, I even found the time to read an eBook. The Miix 510 has a detachable keyboard that makes it easy for me to use it as a tablet. More importantly, the keyboard gives a feel of like you are typing on a normal laptop keyboard.

Sign Documents

In this digital age that contracts and deals are closed outside the normal working hours (because everyone is mobile), it is important to be have your signature and approval ready anytime. The touchscreen allows me to quickly review documents and contracts – and signs them digitally. It is perfect for those who don’t have working printer or scanner at home – or when you are traveling. Mother Earth would be too happy!

Watch Movies or Read Books Anywhere

I usually spend 2 to 3 hours on the road – stuck in traffic. One of the cons of living in Manila. It is a wasted time (if you would think about it). But with the new Miix 510 (and my 6-month iFlix subscription! Thank you John!) I can spend it catching up on movies or TV series.

The Miix 510 has a nice screen display (vivid, crisp and clear) and Dolby Audio speakers for better viewing experience. You can choose the kind of Audio quality you want for the sound – either for Movies, Games, or Music. The audio may not come as loud to fill a room (say, for presentation) but it is good enough for personal viewing.  For the moments I do not want to share my videos (like when I am watching Nognog in the City’s vlogs 😀) I can use my earphones. Thank you to the audio jack which sits next to the volume control.   I can easily adjust the volume without going to the keyboard especially when I am on tablet mode.

Edit photos

When blogging and social media don’t end with just a nicely drafted text, you need a beautiful photo to go with your storytelling. I love the Miix 510’s touchscreen display that allows me to play with my photos. The Miix 510 runs with Windows and I have downloaded photo editing app like PicsArt. I love the touchscreen feature that allows me to touch up photos easier.

The Verdict

Repeating myself during the introduction: I never realized I would need this in my life – until the Lenovo Miix 510 made my life much more easier. Part of this blogpost was written via the Lenovo Miix 510 which I drafted whenever I have free time outside.

The Lenovo Miix 510 is with me for over a month now, but I know I still have a lot to explore (and use) with the gadget. I can say it pretty much does the job with specs such as  2.3-GHz Core i5-6200U CPU and 8GB of RAM. I have not experienced lagging or system slow down even if I use split my screens or open multiple tabs for Youtube, Gmail, Blogger, Facebook and other social media and sites. I, however, encountered an error connecting to the wifi when I lost my wifi adapter (I am not the most techie person!). Thankfully I found answers to the Lenovo Forums.   Battery Life is reliable for a good 5 to 7 hours.  The Miix 510 also has a dual camera – a 2MP and 5MP which are good for video calls but not for photography (at least for my standards 😀). There are two USB ports, one 3.0 and one USB-C – but no memory card slots. But since I have a camera that connects to my phone – and my phone connects to my laptop and Miix 510 via ShareIt app – it is not much of a worry for a mobile warrior like me.
