Camping in Inaladelan Island, Palawan
This island is known as the German Island

I still remember how I would write “a date in a beach” as my perfect date idea whenever I would answer a slumnote back when I was in High School.

These were during the days when I know my parents would not allow me to go on an overnight trip or excursion. During those teenage years, I didn’t have an idea how the “date in a beach” really appears in real life. I mean, I didn’t know which beach I had in my mind at that time. I was pretty sure I would wear a bikini 😁 But I just want the idea of being near the sea in a relaxed setting. Candlelit dinner seems a li’l terrifying when you were young, right?

I just always love the idea of going somewhere secluded — more like an escape – to a place that is private, where there are no other distractions.

That very night in Inaladelan Island where the bonfire was the only source of light, and the stars are beautiful decorations from the sky, I felt like I was living my own “perfect date” idea – except that I didn’t have someone with me. But hey, that didn’t break my heart. At some point in my life, I knew that I had traveled with someone I love. But you know how cliche it may sound – as long as you are with someone you care about, it doesn’t matter even if you spend hours stuck in EDSA. ❤️

But in the world of Instagram game and #travelgoals, we all want to visit and discover new exciting places and destinations.  Inaladelan Island or German Island in Palawan seems like the perfect destination for campers and beach-lovers. It is accessible via a 30-minute boat ride from Port Barton.

It is an unspoiled island perfect for day tour and camping. Inaladelan Island has hammocks, wooden beach chairs, swings and an island bar that sells snacks and drinks. There is also a covered pavilion that guests can use for holding functions or meetings. The pavilion also serves as a charging station from 5 pm to 12 midnight.

There’s a restroom with water (fresh water coming up soon as the owner is set to buy a water pump soon). Do not, however, expect a bathtub.  🤔

You can snorkel, swim with sea turtles (or if you lucky, catch them during hatch season in January), or just plain waste your time doing nothing.

During our camping adventure, the staff set up the tent and provided us with blanket and pillows.

In the afternoon, when the other tourists and day-tour guests started sailing back, I felt a pang of sadness when I realized that we were the only people left in Inaladelan. It was my first time to camp in an island. It felt like we were literally stranded.

I was not quite sure how the sound of waves made me feel. It was a total darkness when I looked at the sea. The stars lit up the sky though. There were thousands of them. I was pretty sure there were constellations but I got my eyes fixated to the ones shining the brightest.

That night, we feasted on local food prepared by the resident chef – who also performed an amazing Fire Dance for us.

Some of the bloggers who went to the trip came prepared with flash light that double as a lamp. While I relied on my mobile phone’s flashlight feature. I packed leggings and jacket though. I heard it becomes really cold at night – and it was cold that night. I was thinking of just sleeping outside the tent, in one of the sun beds, but I got worried about sand fleas. It is not all good and beautiful in the paradise, you see.

So yes, it was officially my first camping experience.
I slept to the sound of waves.
When I woke up, I saw palm trees from the see-through “window” of the tent.

It was a beautiful morning when I stepped out of the tent. The sea was once again a shade of blue. We had breakfast of the usual French Toast and Ham.

We were set to leave the island at 9 in the morning. Although I never start my day without taking a shower, I had to skip the bath that morning. Don’t judge me. I just felt that I would feel more comfortable to take a bath back in our hotel. Taking a bath is really challenging though because there are only two restrooms that both boys and girls share. I hope that is something that the owners can improve soon.

It was a nice escape though. It was a perfect time for me to disconnect from my world and reconnect with myself.  I wish to be back soon.
