When one thinks of beach destinations in Mindoro, the famous White Beach in Puerto Galera always comes to mind.
Going furthermost South of Mindoro is the town of Bulalacao known to be the island-hopping capital of Mindoro. Most of the tour packages and boat rides divide the tours into North Tour and South Tour.
During my recent trip to Mindoro with the Department of Tourism, we got to visit one of the famous islands in Bulalacao – Suguicay Island. Other popular islands in Bulalacao are :
- Malitbog Island – white sand beach, crystal-clear waters, and an ideal spot for camping, picnics, and snorkeling
- Aslom Island -white sand beach perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling
- Taugad Island – the island is famous for limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and diverse marine life
- Target Island – uninhabited island popular for snorkeling and diving, with its rich marine biodiversity and coral reefs
- Maricaban Island – a secluded beach for reconnecting with nature
- Banilad Island – white sand beach and a thriving coral reef, making it a great spot for swimming, snorkeling, and fishing
- Panaghoyan Island – a remote paradise that features a long white sand beach, crystal-clear waters, and a serene ambiance for relaxation.
It was like a trip to a hidden paradise as we walked down a long bamboo walkway surrounded by mangroves, and later on, we sailed to the island.
We couldn’t miss the white sand beach and clear water. It is peaceful and quiet. The island appears raw and undeveloped but there are small cottages and even a sari-sari store along the shore. Dogs and cats roamed around the island that welcome and check out the guests. We took our sweet time lounging around and just enjoying the view.
The most unique thing about the island is the black rocks that stand out in the white sand.
We walked to the other side of the island to check the sand bar. It seemed like it was leading to nowhere, and we felt like the main characters of a series.
The view appeared in high contrast accompanied by wind and clouds.
So happy to be in this part of the Philippines.
Travel Tips:
- Bring a dry bag to keep your things dry and safe (especially since waves can be strong during boat rides)
- Wear and re-apply sunblock.
- Wear aqua shoes to protect your feet. It is much easier to go on island-hopping with proper footwear.
- You can bring your own snorkeling and diving gears.
How to Get to Suguicay Island:
The island is usually part of the Bulalacao Island Hopping Tour. I will update this blog for more information on accredited travel tour operators in Mindoro. Currently, the boat rent from San Juan to Suguicay Island is Php 1,200 for 10 pax.
