From Corporate to Freelance | Unlocking Freelancer Benefits in Maya App

July 14, 2025

When I left my corporate job 11 years ago to be a full-time blogger (content creator was not a term back then), it also meant leaving the comfort and stability of monthly paychecks, performance bonuses, a supportive office culture, and benefits like HMO and insurance.

Looking back, typing those words now feels almost too bold. Back then, I was simply driven by passion and determination to take a leap into the unknown. Freelancing wasn’t as common at that time yet, and leaving a multinational company known for its excellent work-life balance a pretty risky move.

One of my favorite experiences during my corporate career

Thankful to be part of this organization and to have the opportunity to work with such amazing people

At that time, I was chasing the freedom and my passion. I wanted time to just travel when I wanted, say yes to events and passion projects, and live each day on my own terms.

I thought, “I’m young. I won’t get sick. I just want to live in the present.” And I did, for a while.

I embraced different “eras” of my life since I left the corporate world, taking different roles and gigs from being a Livestream Host, working part-time in a Financial Institution, and accepting projects related to Digital Marketing. I am now living a Freelance Life where some months are busy, and some are painfully struggling. It is unpredictable, yet there’s one tool that I consistenly use that helps me manage my finances – Maya.

I first encountered Maya when it first launched, and as I adapt and evolve in this industry, it has become one of my trusted financial apps. Maya helps me manage, grow, and protect my income as a Fulltime content creator and freelancer.

Here’s how Maya helps me stay steady:

Smooth, real-time, FREE fund transfers – I can easily transfer clients’ payments via PayPal directly to my Maya Wallet for FREE. FREE transfers are a big help for freelancers, especially when we lose money from the FOREX and loss on currency exchanges. If you are a new user, you can connect your Maya app to PayPal and get Php 250 cashback when you transfer at least Php 7,000.

Earn thousands in savings – this is one of my favorite features in the Maya app – the Maya Savings! I don’t just save money – I can grow it up to 15%! I recently used some of my fund for personal trip and now I am staying focused on saving again. It is a big help for Freelancers like me who has unpredictable income.

Easy Access to Credit – in case income is delayed (which is common in freelance work), Maya Easy Credit can help cover necessary expenses while I wait for payments. I can tap into Maya Easy Credit directly through the app without the need to do paperwork for approval. Plus Maya also offers Credit Cards like the Landers Cashback Everywhere Credit Card which gives you up to 5% cashback at Landers Superstores, while the Maya Black Credit Card lets you earn Maya Miles on every swipe

Access to Singlife’s Cash for Income Loss – Freelancers like me can easily buy Singlife Insurance plans via the Maya App. We can even earn Php 500 when we purchase any Singlife plan for the first time. One of the recommended plans / coverages (I also learned this during my stint in the Insurance Industry), is the Cash for Income Loss. This plan pays the insured in case of an accident and they can’t work. As a freelancer, this is the kind of protection that gives real peace of mind.

I am continuously learning and evolving in this industry, and while Freelance Life can be unpredictable, I Maya helps me stay financially steady.
