Gents no need a little more convincing. I think they had been loyal fans of top siders, as it can transform, casual look to smart casual, and vice versa. And when you think about top siders, only one name comes to mind – Sperry!
I was lucky to get invited for the soft launching of the American Brand, Sperry at the Complex Lifestyle Store in Eastwood last September 1st. The event was rather intimate as we shared dinner at the Uncle Cheffy restaurant before heading to the store.
Sperry Top Sider, which I only knew when I was in grade school was re-introduced to us. The brand which was coined, A Brand Born in Sea has been an American Favorite since 1935 when Paul Sperry, used a pen knife to cut siping into the outsole of a rubber sneaker. The history started when Paul watched his cocker spaniel, Prince, run across the ice on a winter’s day in Connecticut, he noticed his dog’s amazing ability to maintain traction on the slippery surface. Turning over Prince’s paw, he observed hundreds of tiny cracks and cuts going in all direction. These wave-like grooves became the inspiration for Mr. Sperry’s latest patent, called Razor-Siping, and were instrumental in maximizing the traction and performance of the Authentic Original Sperry Top Sider introduced in 1935.
Since then the brand has made loyal following from world renowned sailors (I wonder if Popeye used Sperry?!) and continually developed from boat shoes to lifestyle classifications.
Right now, you can only buy the original, and authentic Sperry Top Sider from the Complex Lifestyle Store in Eastwood Mall and Ayala Center Cebu.
We were able to check the collection (and even tried some of the shoes!). Price starts at Php4,000 but it is worth to wear the original Sperry Top Siders, because it would last you a lifetime. Like what one blogger has shared, he has to give away his pair of Sperry so he would have reason to buy a new one.

During the event, Complex Lifestyle Store raffled off one Sperry Top Sider! I wasn’t feeling the Law of Attraction, and nope, I didn’t win. But it is okay, I can always buy one pair – the store is just next to my office building.
