I am sure you have heard about the different taxi services in Manila that you can book via app; and of course, the private car services that give you a chance to ride the most luxurious cars (the catch though, they are a bit expensive).
I am delighted to discover the Uber X. I have previously blogged about the Uber Manila service here – where I talked about our first experience riding the luxury car provided by Uber.
Uber X is the more affordable alternative to private car service. Instead of sending luxurious cars, Uber X uses compact cars – think Accent, City and Wigo – in a variety of colors. The cars are unmarked so it is like having a private car. I got to try the Uber X ride when I went to Pandora event. I was lucky because when I opened the app, it easily monitored the Uber X car in the area, and instantly booked me.

I was picked by a Toyoto Vios (my driver has a cool name!), and the driver is nice and pleasant. Contrary to most of the cab drivers I encountered who would frown at the mention of any destination. He said that he was lucky that I booked because he just dropped off someone, and he was not expecting an Uber customer in the area. I think I was luckier because when I tried booking for Uber X just the other day, the app said there are no available Uber X cars in the area – more so, Black Cars (for more luxurious service).
The driver has his own tablet, with the Uber app on and running. I got disconnected when I left the house (and I don’t have data connection), but that was okay because he was able to complete the transaction in the app.
I got to my destination safe and sound. One of the most convenient rides! Just like riding a black car, I didn’t need to pay money because the bill was automatically billed to my credit card (actually I have remaining credits that I was able to use).
The receipt was sent to my registered email with the details of the ride. When I reconnected online, Uber saved my last ride details and I was able to give a rating to the driver (5 stars!).

Total damage for my ride from Manila to SM Megamall is Php 249. It is about the same amount that I would pay for a cab service – and considering that we left and traveled during rush hour. So far, I am loving my Uber X experience. I just wish that more and more black cars and Uber X cars would roam around Manila area. I was kind of disappointed when they run the #UberIceCream promo and it was only for selected areas like Makati and the Fort. Boo.
Anyway, if you want to try Uber X or Uber Black Car service, simply download Uber in Google Play or Apple Store, and hey, I got a promo code that you can use so that your first ride would be free!
PS. This is not a sponsored or paid post. I wish it was! So I could get more awesome rides and services whenever I go to events 🙂
