United Kingdom’s number one coffee shop, Costa Coffee opens its doors to a new brew experience in Bonifacio Global City.

I missed the opening of the other Costa Coffee stores, so I was excited what’s hot and brewing in this new cozy place.  Ironically, I also didn’t have the time to sit down and enjoy a good cup of coffee during my #RuthGoestoLondon trip.  Read about my London trip.
Anyway, Costa Coffee welcomed me with the fine roasted smell of coffee along with with telephone booths, double decker bus displays and the Big Ben.  There were even minicoopers decaled with UK’s flag and Costa’s logo. Smooth.

Inside, was even a greater sight and sound of London. Cara Manglapus treated us to British classic songs. This is great.

Costa Coffee was started by two brothers in 1971. Bruno and Sergio Costa decided to create smething truly memorable – their love for premium coffee had them to sell their products in local caterers and soon after, they opened their first cafe.
And speaking of brothers, we spotted James and Phil Younghusband in the event – truly completing the British experience.  I  told these guys I always see them in events but I just had to have a picture with them.

I made a quick check of the menu and I found interesting cold and hot drinks. I had the Caramel Latte (Ice Blended) as suggested. It felt icy though – I was expecting it to be smoother. Next time I would try the hot drinks. I heard good things about their lattes and brews.

The sandwiches are real good deals though. I had the Philly Steak Sandwich. A generous serving for only Php 170.
There were Halloween Theme cupcakes and brownie bars in the table set-up.They looked delightfully inviting with interesting touch of anything and everything London. But I had to skip. I had the Smore’s Cup instead – the play on texture and chocolate flavor is just perfect for my craving.

A cup of Costa Coffee is now being enjoyed for over 40 years in 3,000 Costa stores. The goal then was to bring irristable coffee and community spirit to the people of London.  Now it aims to be the world’s favorite coffee shop brand.  It wouldn’t be hard for Costa Coffee to convert the people in the Fort to love their craft simply because they have all the elements of perfect coffee shop.
While most  of the coffee shops use Arabica coffee, Costa brothers created their own unique blend which is a combination of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans. It yields a smooth, round but rich tastes, the Mocha Italia and the blend becamea closely grounded secret. The perfect blend is still being roasted in the Old Paradise Street Roastery in London.  To ensure that Costa coffee remains consistent allover the world, they hired Master Genarro Peliccia as the official Coffee Master. I heard that his tongue was once insured for GBP 10 million. I know how elaborate coffee-tasting and spitting is so that makes sense. Haha

During the opening, we have also witnessed the Barista of the Year challenge where baristas from other two stores competed to showcase their skills. The winner will get to represent the country in Singapore.

I somehow, remember the old days where I also participated (just because) and I made a perfect cup of cappuccino and shots of espresso. But because it was all impromptu, I had to improvise and create a signature drink with coffee and orange juice. We called it Sunset. Haha.
