Food Trip in Manila: Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe

July 20, 2019

Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe Robinsons Place Manila

Egg tarts, buns, seafood, fried noodles, and milk teas.

A quick look at the Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe ‘s menu would give you a delightful cafe feast. I am not surprise, Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe is the longest running Hong Kong cafe concept in the world. The name may be a little confusing – Honolulu and Hong Kong are geographically far from each other, but this 70-year old tea shop and the oldest tea restaurant in Hong Kong has everything that you are looking for in a Hong Kong cafe.

I got to visit the Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe in Robinsons Place Manila, and I am quite happy and surprised to see the new look of the mall and better food choices around. I remember hanging out at the Robinson’s Place Manila back in College.

Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe in Robinsons Place Manila is the second store of this tea restaurant in Manila. The place has a youthful and vibrant vibe. Framed displays, Chinese drawings and colorful walls make an Instagrammable ambiance.

The open kitches that displayed roasted white meat and freshly baked egg tarts make the whole place more inviting.
What to Eat at Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe?
Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe is popular for its Egg Tart (Php 50). You might wonder why people line up for its egg tart, but think of 192 layers of crust and delightful yummy custard egg. It is very soft and creamy.

Pork buns and pastries are delightful treats. The Honolulu Bo Lo Bun with Butter (Php 60.00) is a bread made in heaven! It reminds me of home. Imagine a whole slice of creamy butter in a soft bread.

The Crusty BBQ Pork Bun (Php 60.00) perfect for those who love pork buns – crusty on the outside, and soft, chewy bread inside with savory filling. It is bigger than the normal pork buns we buy from our favorite restos.

For real treats, the Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe has a wide variety of food selections – from rice meals, fried noodles, and savory dishes.  You must try the HK Classics like the Roasted Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork and Fried Noodles. The dishes are reasonably priced and are good for sharing.

The Beef Brisket (Php 328) must be my favorite dish. The meat is so tender, the sauce is just perfect, and the potatoes are soft.

Hong Kong Style Noodle Soup with Fried Egg (Php 198.00) is perfect for quick craving especially on rainy days. I am sure you are familiar of the luncheon meat on top! I would prefer a slice of my favorite SPAM though.

Other recommended dishes and best-sellers in Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe are: Curry Fish Ball (Php 198.00 for 10 pcs), Deep Fried Prawn with Thousand Island Dressing (Php 488.00),  Steamed Rice with Chicken and Mushroom in Casserole (Php 198.00)

Honolulu Hong Kong Cafe is a family restaurant that offers the usual HK favorite dishes and delightful food for any ages. The price point is reasonable and comparable to other cafes and restaurants. Come as you are, with family and friends. Don’t forget to take photos – the store has such a hip and youthful vibe.
