A peaceful sight, trees, greens,  and a spread of colorful salad and local snacks greeted us when we arrived in Terra Verde EcoFarm. It was a rainy day but the owners Sir Eric Atanacio and Sir Eman Atanacio welcomed us warmly in their home.

Terra Verde EcoFarm started as a family farm. When Sir Eman was diagnosed with thryoid condition that triggers stress, he was advised by his doctor to take a break and stay in the farm away from the stressors of the corporate and city life. He then organized and developed the farm as a retreat place, together with his brother Eric and his family.

They first started planting organic crops for personal consumption, without disturbing the natural terrain and animals’ habitat. Later on, the farm has grown into a full-bloom organic and resort farm known as Terra Verde. 

Sir Eman drove us around the 15-hectare farm while sharing profound stories about the farm. He shared about a 7th birthday party held at the farm where the kids planted their own trees, and the educational trips of students, and families.

Terra Verde EcoFarm cultivate different plants, fruits, veggies and crops – keeping in mind not to disturb the nature. They have a space where they planted vegetables based on Bahay Kubo, and there are specific areas where they raise different animals like pigs, wild pigs, ducks, chicken, horses. These animals are feed organic food and plants. Terra Verde also concoct their own fertilizers and wood vinegar. 

The farm is an Extension Service Provider of Agricultural Training Institute. Students, hobbyists, corporate groups and other organizations who wish to learn more about Integrated Diversified Organic Farming System can visit the farm and learn more about their best practices.

At night, we stayed in a Kubin –  a play of two words – kubo and cabin. I shared room with Marj and Melody in a 3-bed Kubin with air conditioned unit, TV and fan. There is a common toilet, shower, and sink area for the guests. 

Sir Eric Atanacio joined us during dinner and shared a lot of life lessons and wisdom. I really enjoyed talking to elders and learning from them. I am glad that his views and experiences supported my new morning rituals and habits. I may be a little late to learn, but I am happy to know I am on the right track.

Terra Verde is a beautiful sight to wake up to every morning. It was beautiful even if it was cloudy and raining. Terra Verde is a proof that there is nothing nature can heal.
