Silver-Making Class in Bali: Agung Silver

October 7, 2022

Indonesia has a rich history of unique handmade jewelry techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation. Since I collect silver charms as a travel souvenir. I thought it would be nice to make my own silver accessory instead of buying one. During my recent trip to Bali, Indonesia, I did exactly that and had a little adventure in Agung Silver.

Agung Silver is a highly recommended place to visit in Bali. They offer a silver workshop that is truly immersive and experiential. It is recommended to book a class in advance as the place is really popular and there are a lot of visitors – locals and foreigners.

I had a little misadventure as I didn’t realize that it is a 2-hour drive from my hotel in Kuta. I booked a Grab (unfortunately, I pinned the wrong location as there are many different Agung Silver destinations in Bali). Thankfully, the Grab driver agreed to drive me to the destination and even made sure we made it to the right location. When we reached a dead-end for the car – a bridge, he asked around first, and advised me to not leave the car to make sure it is safe. I asked him if he could wait for me as there is no Grab service in the area.

When I crossed the bridge, it was another 500-meter walk. Part of me wanted to go back and just dismissed it. Then suddenly, a scooter came and it was the Grab driver who asked a local to send me to the Agung Silver. He knew it would be a long walk.

I was late for my booked appointment, but the Agung Silver staff is really nice to accommodate me. I was so happy I made it there, and I thought I would worry about heading back to the bridge after I am done. In the middle of my work(shop), I suddenly saw my driver outside. He found a way to bring the car to the shop and waited for me there. I am amazed by how God sent angels to guide and help me. 👼

I chose a simple and classic design (ring), and asked for recommendations for something that is easy to make.

Then it was time for me to work. I shared the whole process in my IG Reels, so do check it out.

It is truly an adventure for me – I have a nice silver ring souvenir and a story to share.
