Carbohydrates give us energy for us to perform and carry out our daily activities. For athletes and fitness enthusiasts, it is important to stay energized for non-stop fitness routines.
However, when we think of “carb-loading”, thoughts like pasta, bread and rice always come to mind. Before you ask for additional serving of “carbs”, it is important to take only high-quality, high-carbohydrate whole food, a true superfood. Yes, not all carbs are created equal. Always say Yes for US Potatoes because they contribute more nutrition to the body and are more filling. Some people even find them easier to digest. US Potatoes are much more flexible to cook, too. You can mix them with your favorite dish, bake them or fry them. There are many ways to enjoy US Potatoes and they are locally available.
People always wonder where I put all the food and “carbs” that I am consuming. Maybe, I am lucky to have such a slim physique but I also try to make sure that I do something that my future self would thank me for. 💪 I try to make healthier choices especially after I attended a series of organic farm tours in the Philippines
I am lucky that I have my mom who prepares food for us and makes sure that she serves us a balanced meal every single day. We usually have meat dishes but she tries to incorporate vegetables (potato being the staple and default vegetable ingredient) as well.
I grew up eating potatoes and enjoyed how my mom always incorporated them into her home-cooked meals – especially her usual go-to Filipino dishes like Mechado, Afritada, Menudo and Caldereta. On lazier days, she would cook Picadillo (simple recipe but both my brother and I love!). There are mornings when she would prepare omelette with (you guess!) – potatoes!
Potatoes have high level of carbohydrates that provide physical energy and also help with proper brain functioning. This is especially essential for the kind of work that I do – a good dose of creativity and a shot of critical thinking.
Potatoes also give me energy when attending spinning classes. Spinning tests one’s endurance and speed but also strength. Spinning instructors add dance routines and weight lifting while you are continuously spinning. Aside from having a strong core and leg muscles, it is also important to have the energy to keep up with the pace and “finish the trail”.
I follow a daily exercise routine and go for something extreme once in a while. You wouldn’t believe that at night, I still do exercise in bed before going to sleep (something that is good for my legs).
