Greece Travel: Hydra, Poros and Aegina Day Cruise from Athens
When we flew from Manila to Athens, we had one free column in our itinerary that was unfilled with no plans. Knowing @rodelflordeliz who cannot stay in one place for a long time, he asked me if we are good to take on an island–hopping day cruise from Athens that he saw online via Klook. It was like an invitation to elope, all I could say was, “Let’s do it; let’s go”.
Delphi, Greece
The place on Earth where man is closest to God.
I didn’t have a lot of #OOTD or self photos in this blog. I am sharing with you photos and scenes of how I saw the islands. Some are taken by @rodelflordeliz, but most of the photos were taken by me using Motorola Z2 Play. Enjoy!
We had an early call time for the bus pick-up. Klook has a designated pick-up list of hotels for each tour package. Our pick-up point was just a 5-minute walk from our hotel. We traveled from the city to the port and from there, we boarded the ship. I think it was my first time to really be in a cruise. The weather was nice and the mood was festive. There was even a photo opportunity session for each group of guests.
Here’s the description/itinerary of the day cruise tour from the Klook site:
Enjoy a relaxing day cruise to the three gorgeous islands of Poros, Hydra, and Aegina
Marvel at the spectacular view of the Aegean Sea as you go from one island to the other
Take a rest on Poros Island, with ample sunshine, crystal clear waters and white sands!
Stroll around Hydra, an island known for being a popular refuge for artists of all kinds
Visit Aegina Island and see the place that was once visited by Zeus himself!
We didn’t get a seat next to the windows (they were mostly occupied by the seniors). The sail took about an hour to reach the first destination. We decided to sleep. 💤
Hydra, Greece
Our first stop was the photogenic, Hydra. Even before we docked in the island, I already knew I fell in love with Hydra. There’s something about the quiet docked ships, dramatic mountainscapes and small villages in the slope hills that make it perfect.
Hydra is a popular summer destination in Greece. The most interesting thing about Hydra is, cars are not allowed in the island. You explore by foot, or by boat, or by riding a donkey.
Hydra, Poros and Aegina Day Cruise from Athens
We had a nice time exploring the place with fluffy cats welcoming us around the island.
We wished that we had more time to explore, and sit down and have a nice meal, but we needed to board the ship again for the next island.
Poros, Greece
I have been hearing a lot about Poros even before we flew in to Greece. Poros is a popular summer destination in Greece aside from Santorini. Poros is comprised of two islands, Sphairia and Kalavria, of which the former is a volcanic rock and the latter planted with pine trees. The island has become popular as the departure port for sailing trips to Saronic Gulf. Poros has monastery, museum and beaches – which unfortunately, we didn’t get to visit. Poros is popular for its sandy beach and clear water.
We were only given less than an hour to roam around. We decided to hike the popular Clock Tower in Poros and see the view from above. It was quite a hike to the top, but the view was amazing. The Clock Tower was built in 1927 and is a famous landmark in Poros.
We headed back to ship earlier than the scheduled time. For the tour, we were given a ticket and schedule on when we would take our lunch. Ours was scheduled after the visit to Poros. We were also partly scared to miss the ship and get stuck on the island. 🤣
It was a decent lunch, but not the best I would say. They served us chicken, fish, Greek Salad, pasta, rice and some sweets. After lunch, we had the time to chill and take a nap.
Aegina, Greece
Our last stop for our island-hopping tour cruise was Aegina. It is a beautiful island and a popular weekend destination in Greece.
We skipped the bus tour that was offered on the cruise, but when we docked on the island, we decided to ride a kalesa.
Aegina has is an island of interesting character. It is best known to grow the best pistachios in the world. And with that said, I had to buy a pistachio peanut butter. 😁
After going around, we decided to have coffee and just enjoy the sunset.
Sailing back to Athens, we enjoyed the cruise entertainment with a show of traditional Greek music and dancing. I was praying hard to the Greek Gods that they won’t pick me up to join the dance. 🙏
It was a fun and comfortable cruise. I know it would be tiring and challenging to do it on our own. We got a good deal from Klook for only Php 5,750++.
The Poros, Hydra and Aegina Day Cruise from Athens Tour is a nice way to see Greece. I wish we had more time to explore the islands.

I cannot really pick which one island I love the best. I would love to say Hydra, because it is so laid-back, quiet, and “unspoiled” (just like how many writers describe the island).
We arrived in Athens before 8 pm. When we got back to our hotel, I found my luggage waiting for me in our room.
Thank you for following the Greece adventure!
Note that you too can travel to Greece for only Php 10,000+ .
