[Review] Lenovo S850: Best Smartphone for Selfies + Good Battery Life

March 26, 2015

I don’t know about you, but I choose my gadgets based on my needs and how they give value to my life and how they help me with life’s simple stresses. I don’t normally go with what’s in and new in the market. I am content with my little tech world that allows me to do what I need to do.

After 4 months, I am ready to publish my review of Lenovo S850. A bit long overdue, but here it goes:
Lenovo S850 is a stylish and classy piece of smartphone with impressive features.
Let’s talk about the design first.

Lenovo S850 Design

Slim, sleek and lightweight. It is simple with impressive glass exterior and vibrant 5-inch HD Display. It is truly made for stylish woman would love a smartphone that can fit in her clutch. Dimension is 141 x 71 x 8.2mm and weighs only 140 grams.
It is easy to get accustomed to the Lenovo S850. It has micro-sim slot and speaker on the left side which can be opened via the key included in the package. Volume and Power Button on the right side; and USB and headset jack slots on top.

This smartphone seemed perfect if not for this key for opening the sim slot (which can accommodate two micro sims). For a second I felt worried about misplacing the key!

The back of the phone is where miracle happens. It has 13 MP Camera with flash.
(keep reading to see sample shots!)
Even the box is stylish and innovative!

What is included in the Lenovo S850 Box?

The Lenovo S850 Box comes with earphones (with earbuds) and USB cable and charger.
I love that everything is white. Although I love black, this package looks so regal.

Lenovo S850 Screen Display

One of the best features of the Lenovo S850 is the vibrant display that gives you like a real-feel of the picture that you are capturing. It is also nice to watch movies and videos via Lenovo S850 because it is lightweight and it comes with a nice case. Check out:

Lenovo S850 Camera Shots

I put the Lenovo S850 to the test and I love how it captured vivid and clear pictures.
These are all unedited and unfiltered photos taken by Lenovo S850. Let’s start with FOOD PORN!
Check out the captions I used for the photos to guide you on what kind of setting or lighting was used for each. I am no pro-photographer so I would just use whatever is applicable.
I am surprised that Lenovo S850 was able to vividly take a picture of this Bangus under Incandescent Light which is makes everything yellow.
We cannot miss a steak shot 🙂
Putok-Batok!
This was shot at night and in incandescent light.
The phone was able to capture the yummy, crispy look of the chicken! Now I am hungry! Haha
Now, I’ll show you some real-life situations where I got to use Lenovo S850 to take the best pictures in every situation.
Pole Dancing Performance! Wow!

Macro-shot of the Pandora Bracelets and Charms I am starting to collect.
I reviewed this splash-proof Braven speaker and I had to go to the roof-top and take this shot!
Bam! Lenovo S850 perfectly captured the vivid color of the speaker and a few raindrops there!

Cloudy Day in Sky Ranch but I love the colorful ride!
Staycation in Widus Hotel. I can forget about my camera and use Lenovo S850 for documenting my travels 🙂
Restaurant Shots

Outdoor shots are a lot more lively and vivid!
The camera also has good focus for macro-shots.

Outdoor, night shot 🙂
Beach Shot 🙂
These really got me! The awesome pictures of the FIREWORKS!
Now let’s talk about the Front-View Camera.. the next series of photos are all about #selfies!
Lenovo S850 has 5MP Front-View Camera which I think makes it the best smartphone for taking selfies! Again, I used the Lenovo S850 to take photos on real-life situations based on my lifestyle. These are not #selfies taken when I was laying on the bed and worshiping myself. The lighting, environment, situation and feelings vary – but the only constant thing is the crisp, clear images produced by the Front-View Camera.
Selfie with the fun actors of BreakOut Manila!

Selfie in a moving vehicle!

This is an impressive #selfie because of low light and it is actually a #groupie
Having my favorite Chili Fries!
I looked tired and sick in this picture but my skin looked smooth! I officially love this phone!
This is the real “I woke up like this” moment
And here’s the real-life situation I am talking about.. up close and personal with a celebrity!
You need a good smartphone that can take a quick, clear shot!
Bonus!
The Lenovo S850 camera is perfect for that candid and paparazzi shot moments..
Bus Caught on Fire!

 Haha 🙂

Whew! I guess this is the most number of selfies I have posted in social media. Note that these pictures are not edited. But Lenovo S850 has a built-in photo editor which works perfectly great too. I played with the filters a little but I have not used it ever.

Lenovo S850 Battery Life

Need I say more? This sleek smartphone is a beast! It can last me days on standby and whole day taking pictures, on social media and listening to Spotify. I don’t get too alarmed when I see red signal on the battery because I know it would still last for hours. Oftentimes, even at zero battery, it still functions and can play music. It is the very reason I don’t go out with powerbank. It charges fast too which is good for quick power ups!

I hate to see stylish, smartphones which are plugged in a powerbank. What’s the point of choosing a sleek design when you go out and always carry it with a powerbank?

Here are my favorite  “art”e moments with Lenovo S850 Haha

To summarize, what do I love about Lenovo S850?
  • Light, sleek and simple
  • Beastly battery-life
  • Impressive camera that captures pictures as they are.
  • Front-view camera that takes good selfies.
  • Pre-installed Lenovo apps that are useful for everyday use (like Share It!) – more about that on the next post.

Wow, long post with so much pictures! Thank you for spending your time here. This is not a sponsored post (I wish it is!) and I am not paid and I didn’t receive a Lenovo smartphone to write this review. I cannot believe I spent 4 good hours collating and picking pictures, and drafting this blog post. Well, it simply goes to show that if I love and believe in the product, I can endlessy talk and write about it 🙂 A little reminder to fellow bloggers, that blogging is all about passion 🙂
