Organic Farm Tourism Sites in the Philippines
Organic Farm Tourism Sites in the Philippines

From road trips to quick adventures, I am taking you to a different travel exploration with the Agricultural Training Institute of Department of Agriculture.

Philippines is recognized as a one of the world’s top agri-tourism destination. Organic farms, nature-friendly farms, and health and wellness farms were among the top tourism farm destinations in the country. I am happy to take part in the tour to explore and share stories about these farms.

I am an #OABlogger since 2013 and I have participated in several Organic Farm tours around the country. Last month, my scheduled allowed me to explore organic farms in CALABARZON and witness the unveiling of 2 coffee table books.

Here are the photos taken during the launch of the Coffee Table Books. It is also an exciting partnership between ATI and Knowledge Channel. It reminds me of my childhood when I watch Sineskwela. Now, more programs would be focused on agriculture.

We first visited the 4H Youth in Agriculture Hub. It is a learning site and place to be to get information/resources about Organic Farming. The site has a dormitory with decent lodging space. It is good to know that there are places and hubs like this that farmers can go to to get information about farming.

We made a quick stop at Sanctuario Nature Farms in Cavite. Sanctuaria Nature Farms is accredited by Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Learning Site, and TESDA to conduct trainings and seminars regarding organic farming.

I am impressed at how innovative and resourceful they are at keeping and cultivating the farms – from concocting their own OHN, keeping a vegetarian vermi, trading wastages and resources with other farms, and even hosting Cavite State University OJTs. They teach students how to cultivate farms, budget finances, and market them – instilling that there is indeed money in farming – aside from providing food in the table.

I love our short visit to Sanctuario Nature Farms and the fresh brew of tea that I concocted. It was raining hard but we were able to bring home some haul and cuttings.

Just near Tagaytay and Sky Ranch, is the Gorgeous Farms.
Unfortunately it was raining hard and we weren’t able to explore the place but the very hospitalable Ral Murillo welcomed us and fed us with a specialty from The Wild Juan.

The Wild Juan is a family restaurant run by Ral and his son, Chef Tommy. It is  a three-in-one stop being a restaurant, beer garden and bed and breakfast inn at the same time. They offer a very decent lodging place and a good view of the farm.

Guests are treated to a farm-to-table experience, and I love that it is run by family thus their service is very warm, and friendly. I wish to go and discover just how gorgeous the farm is! They have rooms perfect for families, couples and friends. One room can accommodate 6 pax which only costs around Php 5,000+. I think it is a good deal for a very decent lodging that comes with good breakfast set.

Gorgeous Farms is DOT, ATI and TESDA accredited. A truly must-visit place.

In a narrow and sloping side of Cavite we discovered Teofely’s Nature Farms. A family farm owned and named after Timoteo and Felicidad, parents of Ana Cabriga, wife of owner Ian Carbiga. Teofely’s is known for its Native Lechon and it was a timely visit for us just when the news of Swine Flu broke the news.

The farm promote healthy living through organic farming, which also includes raising Black Pigs with minimal and less expensive approach. The farm has a vertical garden and teaches practice of crop rotation, a technique to grow various crops in the same area, according to different seasons and in a sequential manner. I think this is very beneficial for those with small spaces and land area.

The 6,600 square meter site is an ATI Learning Site, DOT-accredited farm tourism site and TESDA-accredited Farm. They conduct training on pig production, including training and seminars on organically grown fruits and vegetables, which include the basics on urban agriculture, seed preparation, plant propagation, sustainable cropping, garden management and proper harvesting.
When you visit, don’t forget to say hello to the Tarantula Collection displayed at the entrance.

I will be featuring more organic farms in my upcoming posts, you can also watch my vlog featuring the launch of “CALABARZON Agriculturaly Awesome” and “Sariling Atin”
